Assalam alaikum Everyone

Saudi Arabia announced that 1 Dhul-Hijjah will be tomorrow, Wednesday 18 November 2009,

And the Muslims performing Hajj will be in ‘Arafah on Thursday 26 November 2009 (9 Dhul-Hijjah 1430), and the Muslim Ummah shall be celebrating ‘Eed al-Adhaa on Friday 27 November 2009, inshaa.-Allaah.

ISNA Canada is also following Saudi Arabia on this, so they will also be having it on Friday inshallah

Lastly, its recommended for whoever can to fast during these days and do lots of extra good deeds as its a special time that Allah has preferred more than others, I am pasting the email from Masjid Farooq below that has some advice for us. May Allah accept from us whatever little we do, give us freedom from the fire and all goodness during these next 10 days, ameen

1ST TEN DAYS OF DHUL-HIJJAH & EID AL-ADHA

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Islam

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmat Allahi wa barakatuh

It is estimated, by calculations, that the 1st day of Dhul-Hijjah will begin on Wednesday November 18, 2009 and therefore it is ESTIMATED that Eid al-Adha will be on Friday November 27, 2009 inshaAllah. However, the final decision will be communicated after receiving the announcement of ‘Arafah day by the Hajj authorities in Saudi Arabia. Please make note of this if you would like to observe the following:

WHAT TO DO DURING THE 1ST TEN DAYS OF DHUL-HIJJAH:

Fasting the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah

One of the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) “used to fast the nine days of Dhul-Hijjah…” [Ahmad – sahih according to al-Albani].

Fasting the Day of Arafah (9th day of Dhul-Hijjah)

Narrated Abu Qatadah that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Fasting on the Day of Arafah is an expiation (of the sins) for two years, the year before it and the year following it [Muslim].

Performing Good Deeds and Making Dhikr

Ibn ‘Umar (radiy Allahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “There aren’t any days greater, nor any days in which deeds done in them are more beloved to Allaah Most High, than these ten days (of Dhul-Hijjah). So, increase in them the saying of Tahleel (Laa-ilaaha-ill-Allaah), and Takbeer (Allaahu-Akbar) and Tahmeed (al-hamdu-lillaah).” [Ahmad].

Offering the Udhiya (Sacrifice)

Abdullah bin Umar (radiy Allahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) stayed in Madina for 10 years and he used to make the sacrifice (every year) [Ahmad, Tirmidhi].

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The one who is intending to offer a sacrifice must not remove anything from his/her skin, hair or nails from new moon of Dhul-Hijjah until the sacrifice is done…

Umm Salamah (radiy Allahu anha) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “If you see the Hilaal (new moon) of Dhul-Hijjah, and any one of you wants to make a sacrifice, then he should not cut (anything) from his hair and his nails.” [Muslim].
